Managing Conversations

Organize, label, archive, and manage your chat conversations.

Every conversation in BlackMountain can be organized with labels, folders, and other management tools to keep your work structured and accessible.


Renaming Conversations

BlackMountain auto-generates a conversation title based on your first message, but you can change it to something more descriptive at any time.

To rename a conversation:

  • Click the three dots on the conversation in the sidebar, or

  • Click the three dots at the header of each chat to the right and select Rename chat


Labels

Assign labels to categorize your conversations by purpose or context. Labels help you quickly identify the type of work you're doing in each chat.

Assigning Labels

  1. Right-click a conversation in the sidebar

  2. Select Assign Label

  3. Choose one or more labels from the list

You can assign multiple labels to a single conversation.


Folders

Organize conversations into folders for better structure. You can create folders, nest them for deeper organization, and move conversations between folders using drag and drop.

Creating Folders

  1. Click the folder icon in the Chats sidebar

  2. Enter a folder name

  3. Press Enter to create the folder

Nesting Folders

You can create sub-folders by on the three dots next to the folder. This allows you to build hierarchical structures for complex projects or workflows.

Moving Conversations

Click on the three dots next to the conversations to move them into folders to organize them.


Archiving Conversations

Archive conversations you no longer need in your active list but want to keep for future reference.

To archive:

  • Click the three dots next to a conversation

  • Select Archive

  • The conversation is moved out of your active list

To unarchive:

  • Access Archived Conversations in settings from the sidebar menu

  • Go to Chats

  • Under Archived Chats

  • Select Unarchive to restore it to your active list


Searching Conversations

Use the search function to quickly find conversations by title or content.

  • Press Ctrl+K (Windows/Linux) or Cmd+K (Mac) to open search

  • Type your query to search across all conversation titles and content

  • Click a result to open that conversation


Deleting Conversations

To permanently delete a conversation, right-click it and select Delete.

Permanent deletion:
This action cannot be undone. The conversation and all its messages will be permanently removed.


Export & Import

BlackMountain allows you to export your entire chat history and import it back later. This is useful for backing up your work or moving conversations between accounts.

Exporting All Chats

  1. Open Settings from the profile menu

  2. Navigate to the Chats section

  3. Click Export All Chats

  4. A JSON file will be downloaded containing all your chat threads and messages

Export statistics: The export includes statistics about the number of threads and messages being exported, so you can verify the backup is complete.

Importing Chats

  1. Open Settings from the profile menu

  2. Navigate to the Chats section

  3. Click Import Chats

  4. Select the JSON file you previously exported

  5. Your conversations will be restored
